Top Music Program: Biggest Fundraiser Cancelled due to Fires, School Closures…

Hello friends,

I am writing everyone to make an appeal on behalf of a music program my son participates in. Mission Viejo High School’s entire music program is fantastic. It’s one of the top programs in the nation, with dedicated coaches and teachers who work hard to bring the best out in these teens. The spirit and dedication by the group, (adults and children alike) is the most unique I’ve experienced in my years as a parent. They spend long hours perfecting their program and traveling to support the football team or compete with other teams to display their talent. The group is one of the largest in the nation and you can imagine what it costs to keep the trucks filled with gas to transport equipment, keep the equipment clean and current, feed the team, beverages, uniform maintenance, an so on.

This year, due to school closures from the dense smoke of the Orange County fires, the groups biggest fundraiser of the year was cancelled. The “home competition” usually brings in the bulk of the monies needed for the year and it is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. As you can guess, this will be a huge burden on the program and with all the funding for such programs cut for schools, it seems we are at a true shortfall.

I know many of you support the arts and even participate on some level in such activities. It is my belief that the program can regain it’s budget by an appeal such as this, for private donations. If enough good folks like you donate even $15.00, we can make it through the year! And, if you’ll circulate this to 5-10 of your friends, and they donate, heck, maybe we can make it on into next year .

Your script is the blueprint for your film. Your budget is the blueprint for how you will most efficiently get the money you have up on the screen. How do you budget a film? We’ll discuss building a schedule and then using the schedule to build the budget. Layton Blaylock’s documentary, Art From the Streets, has picked up another award by winning the Best Documentary Feature at the Rockport Film Festival. Art from the Streets is a feature length documentary about a program for homeless artists called Art From the Streets. This all-volunteer program was established in 1991 with the idea of providing a safe and nurturing environment for homeless people to produce art. They accomplish this mission by sponsoring twice weekly art “classes” and an annual show to sell their work. The film tells this story by tracking five of the artists over the course of a year. Viewers will visit homeless camps, learn the daily challenges of street life, and witness the strengths of human character. You will also experience the 2-day show and sale where the artists’ work is sold and where they interact with people that they rarely have a chance to encounter in such a positive way.

Start to Finish is a two-day course that covers capturing your footage in Final Cut Pro, editing techniques (both technical and aesthetic), cleaning up the sound in Soundtrack Pro and adding or adjusting music, and then adding titles and effects in Motion.
